S&L Partners is a medium-sized law firm established by Dr. Young-Moo Shin, the founder of Shin & Kim and past President of the Korean Bar Association, and Mr. Keun-Woong Lee, a former Chief Judge of Daejon High Court.  The core members of the International Practice Team are Thae Khwarg, Byung-Joo (BJ) Lee, Ye-Ri Han, and Suh-Young (Claire) Shin.

Thae Khwarg graduated from Columbia College in 1980 and received a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1984.  Thae started his legal practice at Coudert Brothers in New York, advising multinational companies on their syndicated loans, joint ventures, and M&A.  After that he headed up the research department of Baring Securities and thereby contributed to the development and globalization of the Korean capital market.  He then set up an asset management company called Asset Korea (now Baring Asset Management Korea) and grew its assets under management from KRW 300 billion to KRW 11 trillion over a 25-year period.

Byung-Joo (BJ) Lee’s expertise lies in the areas of insolvency, turnaround of companies under court receivership or workout programs, and international disputes.  BJ served as the Chair of the Insolvency Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.  BJ received his B.A. in physics from Seoul National University and LL.M. from Harvard Law School.

Our International Practice Team also includes Ye-Ri Han who advises both Korean and international clients in the areas of labor, M&A, cross-border transactions, and fund registrations, among others, and Suh-Young (Claire) Shin who handles international disputes, cross-border investments, and corporate governance.

Currently, the International Practice Team is active in cross-border financial transactions, M&A, corporate governance, international disputes, and environmental matters.  We are recruiting attorneys with experience of three years or more in finance, at a law firm or a financial institution.

Successful candidates will have an opportunity to grow as strong finance and international practice attorneys working closely with the team members.  We hope to have motivated attorneys join the International Practice Team that is in the process of becoming the advisor of choice in resolving the most challenging issues.
